Payments

What is Liquidity?

Liquidity is the ability to obtain or transfer an asset when needed without an unacceptable delay or price impact. In payment systems it can refer to available balances, market depth, redemption capacity, or funding for settlement; those meanings should be stated explicitly.

A displayed balance may be restricted, pending, or held on another network and therefore unavailable for a particular payout. A payment design should account for asset, venue, currency, timing, and network rather than treating all balances as interchangeable.

Market depth and redemption access are different sources of liquidity. Both can change, and neither should be inferred from a token's target price or from an unrelated venue's quoted volume.

Definitions are educational and general. Nothing here is financial, legal or tax advice, and regulatory descriptions summarise frameworks that change — check the current rules for your jurisdiction before relying on them.
