Payments
What is Reconciliation?
Reconciliation compares records from separate systems to find whether a payment was requested, received, recorded, and settled as expected. It identifies missing, duplicate, delayed, or mismatched entries; it is a control process, not a synonym for a successful payment.
A reconciliation record should retain stable operation and order identifiers, expected and received amounts, asset and network, authoritative transaction references, state transitions, and timestamps. Differences need an explicit resolution path. Never resolve a mismatch by trusting a browser success message or an unverified webhook.
Automated matching should record why two records were considered equivalent. Preserve unresolved exceptions for an authorized operator, and make corrections append-only so the investigation can reconstruct the original state.
