What is Wrapped token?

A wrapped token represents an asset through a separate token issued on another network or under another contract. Its value and redemption depend on the mechanism that backs the representation, such as a custodian, bridge contract, or reserve process.

The wrapper adds a trust dependency. Confirm who can mint or release the underlying asset, how failures are handled, and whether the receiving system accepts that exact contract. A matching name or ticker is not enough to establish equivalence.

The backing mechanism may involve custody, collateral, or a bridge protocol. Review the redemption path and failure modes before counting a wrapped representation as equivalent to the underlying asset.

Definitions are educational and general. Nothing here is financial, legal or tax advice, and regulatory descriptions summarise frameworks that change — check the current rules for your jurisdiction before relying on them.
