Payments
What is Payment processor?
A payment processor is a service that performs or coordinates steps in a payment, such as accepting instructions, routing them to a payment rail, and returning status information. The exact role varies by product; the label alone does not establish custody, settlement, or regulatory status.
Integrators should inspect the provider's actual API contract, custody model, supported assets, dispute handling, and source of status updates. A processor's response can be an input to verification, but systems should distinguish an accepted request from a confirmed receipt.
Do not infer legal responsibilities from a product label. Contractual roles and applicable obligations vary by jurisdiction and must be assessed with qualified counsel for the actual service.
