What is Gas fees?

Gas fees compensate a blockchain network for processing and ordering transactions. The fee calculation and asset used to pay it depend on the network. Fees are separate from the amount transferred to a recipient and can change with execution requirements and network demand.

A payment estimate is not a final fee quote, and a failed transaction may still consume a fee on some networks. Interfaces should label transfer amount and network fee separately and avoid representing a fee estimate as an amount the merchant received.

Applications may also sponsor fees or use a different fee token, subject to the network and account model. Explain who pays and what happens when the fee budget is insufficient.

Definitions are educational and general. Nothing here is financial, legal or tax advice, and regulatory descriptions summarise frameworks that change — check the current rules for your jurisdiction before relying on them.
